Dr. Austin plays the lead role in marine education programs at
the Marine Ecology Centre. He has also taught at Simon Fraser
University, Bamfield Marine Centre and the Vancouver Aquarium
His major professional interest, at present, is in sponges
including the recently described ancient sponge reefs known
only from B.C. waters.
Other personnel are hired on an as-need basis for specific
projects.

Personnel
Dr. Bill Austin, Principal of Khoyatan Marine
Laboratory, has carried out coastal and systematic
research in British Columbia over the past 35 years. The
results of this research is incorporated in three books
and in numerous articles, booklets and presentations.
Dr. Austin obtained his Ph.D. at Stanford University and
continued his training in Denmark under a NATO
Fellowship and, briefly, at
Harvard under an Ernst Mayr Grant.
