The Marine Ecology Centre has closed down as of
June 2009. Therefore, we will no longer be running summer
camps. The Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre is
operating summer camps. Check their website
below for more
information.
Here are a few examples of camps we ran in the
past.
In summer 2008 we offered several marine courses covering a
range of interests, age groups and times. We had
family trips to the Gulf Islands, Summer camps
for kids, as well as Pro-D programs for
teachers.
Check out some of the videos taken with ROVER
during the Undersea Camps!
We explored the reefs,
walls, and inter-island passes with ROVER, a remotely
operated mini-submarine that sends pictures up to our
monitor on the surface. Families & adults welcome.

SCIENCE AT THE BEACH:
Pro-D Program for teachers grade 5 - 11
Get
your feet wet and participate in
Curriculum-linked activities
that are fun
and engaging. Learn the do’s
and don’ts
of rocky shore transects from
high to low
tide; participate in quadrat
surveys to
assess the number of clams on
a beach;
and join us surveying eel
grass habitats.
This 3-day workshop
included
boat trips to several beaches
in the
Gulf Islands, It
included a take home
resource package on
identifying key
species, making most survey
materials
at minimal cost, and choosing
representative survey sites.
